Audio Compression Manager (ACM) Support

Any codec which is installed in Windows' ACM list of codecs can be supported by DBCAPTURE. DBCAPTURE uses the Microsoft ACM library (which is part of Windows2000 and XP) to automatically convert sound files to their preferred compressed format(s) on your web site.

DBCAPTURE uses the Microsoft ACM library, which is part of Windows2000 and XP, to automatically convert sound files to their preferred compressed format(s) on your web site. Any codec which is installed in Windows' ACM list of Codecs (multimedia properties/audio/codecs) can be supported by DBCAPTURE. Windows comes with certain free ACM's loaded (Windows Media 9, etc.), but there are others such as the LAME codec (for MP3), Qdesign (for mpeg2) and Real Producer (for real audio formats).

If a particular destination ruleset requires DBCAPTURE to automatically convert a file to one or more of these formats then the WAV file is run through the ACM codec, so that we can render the correct file using the correct bitstream (compression ratio) you've requested. DBCAPTURE allows you to configure audio compression requests by bitstream (if you know the exact bitstream) or by compression ratio. In the latter case, DBCAPTURE queries the codec and finds the closest bitstream match to give you your desired result.
