Backing up critical files on WireReady

The server may have a mirrored hot swap RAID array if you bought the server from us.

A visual inspection should occur at least monthly because 99% of the time a failed drive will light a red light where normally the activity light and drive power lite is orange or green. Also when there is activity on the system - both drive's green activity lights should both flash. If not - there is a utility program that we can go into to check the health of the drive and determine if it needs to be replaced. We can show your engineer how to go into this utility.   There is also an email alert feature if you or your engineer wants to get emailed if a drive fails.    The "art" of the RAID is that if one drive dies - you don't- and as long as we replace the bad drive before both fail - you won't lose data.

Whether or not you have a RAID protected server - there are other ways to back yourself up.

As a further measure of protection - the workstation named SALES1 should have a Windows scheduled task that automatically backs up your database files, notes files, and config files to it's C drive - in case we should lose the array. This should be checked quarterly or at least yearly.   We can help if you ever find the sales computer's task is not running.   We are simply "Xcopying"
the files - so you can also see the WireReady backup folder and see if the dates show there have been recent backups.

The advantage of maintaining a complete WireReady "WIRE" subfolder tree on the SALES1 computer is if your server ever fails and will be down for a day or more - the SALES1 computer can be run as a server for everyone.   It will naturally run slower - but you can maintain operation while you wait for service for your server.

Lastly - your engineer is free to copy files to any backup computer/drive or USB key or CD he likes for off-site storage or just secure storage in someone's lockbox or desk.

Here are the files on the server he/she should be grabbing

There is a WIREREADY folder on the server's C or D drive under there are these files

wire\users\public\sales

In that folder is the sales database $sales.dat and the config file $sales.cfg

under these files you have the NOTES folder (all the notes for the clients) OLDCALLS, and your DOCS folder (all your pop up word order forms and such.)

The database is likely less than 50MB - the notes are probably less than 10MB. The docs may be 150MB.

These are you most crucial files if there is a castrophic loss of all your equipment...

If they are saving orders in our FileLog screen - you can hit the SELECT button and look at the top of the screen after choosing a folder to see where those directories may be on your server.   You may want to back those up.

Lastly - assuming there is a complete backup of the WIRE folder on your SALES1 computer, you don't really need to backup anything else.    It doesn't hurt though to grab these files:

Under the WIRE\USERS folders there are user folders corresponding to your sales people - each of them have an INI file with the same name of their folder. For example:   wire\users\molly\molly.ini would be molly's ini if molly is the WireReady login name.

These are tiny files - but they have all their preferences and security settings.
