Technical Support - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

I'm getting the error "The procedure entry point WMCreatWriter could not be located in the dynamic link library WMVcore.DLL" as soon as the program tries to process a file that requires compression/decompression."

A: Dbcapture (the software program used by MpegReady) uses Microsoft's Audio Compression Manager (ACM).   Windows Media 9 or later must be installed on 2000/XP systems. While we don't actually use "Media Player" you have Media Player 9 or later installed on your system as the ACM is part of that system and we use it to transcode files. While there is Media 10 and even 11- we still prefer 9, and suggest customers stay a year behind the latest and greatest. There is nothing in 10 or 11 that will buy you anything in our software and the trend has been with digital rights and copyright protection to start taking away features in Mediaplayer (from our vantage point) than adding them.
