Technical Support - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

When I click the WinFax button on a brochure or invoice - I get an error saying "The macro cannot be found or has been disabled because of your security settings"

A: There are a couple steps for reinstalling the macro and getting WinFax working correctly again.

1) Try reinstalling the macro using WinFax's macro installer:
Close Microsoft Word.
Log out of your windows user and log in as "administrator" instead.
Open the WinFax Message Manager and go to the Tools menu.
Choose Macro Installer from the list.
Click on the Word macro to install it, and click OK through the windows until it is successfully installed.
Log back into windows as your regular user (i.e. wr-sales1, etc) and try faxing again.

2) If re-installing the macro using Winfax's Macro Installer does not work, try this:

Close Microsoft Word.

Click on Start, then Search. Do a search on the C: drive for "wf*.dot". This should find the files wfword2k.dot and wfwrd2k2.dot. If it finds these two files in c:\program files\winfax\macros, but finds wfwrd2k2.dot in a folder where it does NOT find wfword2k.dot:

Right click the wfword2k.dot that is in c:\program files\winfax\macros, and click Copy.

Right click the wfwrd2k2.dot that is in the folder wfword2k.dot is NOT found in, and choose Open Containing Folder.

When the new folder opens, click the Edit menu choice, and click Paste.

Start Microsoft Word. Faxing should now work.

(In case you are wondering why this is necessary, I think that older versions of Microsoft Word used the c:\program files\Microsoft
office\office\startup folder for macros, so Winfax tries to put macros there. But newer version of Word use c:\program files\Microsoft office\office10\startup folder for macros, and Winfax does not know to put the DOT files there, so we have to manually copy the DOT file).

3) If you are continuing to receive a WinFax error, you can work around the problem by:

Instead of using the tool bar icon to fax from WORD (which is a macro) do the following:
To fax from WORD:

Click FILE pull down menu
Click PRINT (or use the accelerator for print)
Change the printer to the WINFAX printer
Click OKAY

The message monitor will come up and it will fax as if you clicked the button. The above method takes a couple extra keystrokes.

(This problem may be a reoccuring problem if someone has ugpraded to XP, or Office XP or applied a service pak to WORD AFTER WinFax was already installed).
