Technical Support - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

DBCapture is giving the message "CANNOT CREATE LOCK FILE..." for the folder I am sendin to - how do I fix that?

A: The "lock file" is to prevent two or more DBcapture computers from trying to publish to the same web page at the same time. This keeps the changes to the web page from being overwritten by the other instance of DBcapture. If you are only using one instance of DBcapture, see the end of this FAQ for information on disabling this feature.

This message usually means that DBcapture is unable to access the ftp path for the page you are publishing to, or that the login information is incorrect to log into the ftp site. Most of the time this will be due to the computer that is running DBcapture losing its connection to the Internet.

Check the computer that is running DBcapture and see if it can access any sites on the Internet. If it can, then see if that same computer can access the ftp site using an ftp program, if one is installed on that computer. Once the DBcapture computer can access the ftp site over the Internet, the message should not be displayed when sending stories.

To disable the Lock feature if only using one instance of DBcapture:
Exit DBcapture by clicking on the X in the upper right corner. Enter the password "exit" to close the program.
Edit the dbcapture.ini file in the \wire\dbcapture folder on the drive letter that DBcapture is running from. You can use Notepad or Wordpad to edit this text file.
Each In/Out path configured in dbcapture.ini will have its own line to control the Lock file. The format of the line is "LockOutputFoldersX=yes", where "X" is a number that corresponds to the In/Out paths with the same number.
Edit each line so that it is set to "no", and then save the changes to the dbcapture.ini file. Restart DBcapture.
