Wireready Incorporated

Technical Support - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Sometimes the startup sequence goes so fast that it gets to opening the WireReady before establishing the w: drive.

Q: We're running pretty fast machines. Sometimes, if the computer has been off, the startup sequence goes so fast that it get to opening the WireReady before establishing the w: drive. But, if you simply reboot, it's fine. It doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen some.

A: We've got a new solution for this occurance. There's "WRDELAY" on our download page. After you unzip it it's WRDELAY.EXE

WRDELAY "command line" delay
i.e WRDELAY.EXE "w:\wire\wr32.exe /u david" 10

For example, will create a 10 second countdown window and then launch wireready giving the machine not only enough time to create any substituted drives, networked drive letters, but give all system drivers a chance to load.   Some customers use a value even 30 to 60 seconds.

The command line should be in quotes.
You may be starting your program as "w:\wire\wr_win.exe /u onair" for example.

You can copy WRDELAY to the C:\ root drive. Right click make a shortcut on the desktop to it.

Right click properties the shortcut - and edit the target to include the command line in quotes and the delay value you want.

Then copy/paste this to STARTUP FOLDER (drag and drop it) or right click on PROGRAMS navigate to the STARTUP folder and paste the icon in. One of these 3 methods will work.

Remove any old shortcuts that start wireready.

You can still keep the shortcut in the startup folder that does your SUBST W: command.

No matter which shortcut windows starts first - since the WRDELAY will be counting down, it will be able to substitute the drive well in advance of the startup of the system.
