How can I record programs when the program start time may vary?
Q: We record our programs for playback later. How can I record the program when the program start time may vary?
A: You can use the ControlDeck command, and have a recording playlist in a different deck.
This command will allow you to start and stop the recording playlist in a different deck. Create a playlist that will do the recording of your program, and load it in a deck that is not going to be used for the playback of audio or for recordings of other feeds. This playlist does not need to be running, as the ControlDeck command will be used to start it. Mark down the sequence number of the line that the recording session starts on (if you are using a command to control a switcher, you want it to start at that line).
On the sequence line before the beginning of the program in the playback playlist, insert a ControlDeck command. Set the command parameters to control the Deck# that the recording playlist is in. Then set the Operation line to "Start at Specified Line", and enter the sequence line number that the recording session starts on.
At the end of the program in the playback playlist, insert another ControlDeck command. Set the Deck# to be the same as the first command you inserted, and set the Operation to "Stop". This will stop the recording in the other deck when the program ends.
The ControlDeck command can also be used to Load and Start a playlist in another deck. This command is used by stations to start sporting events that can be delayed, and to return to regular programming at the end of game.
