Technical Support - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Where do I find the voice tracker in ControlReady?

A: Currently the only place voice tracking is available/applicable is in the automation decks which run playlists.

In the tool bar of the automation decks is a button for Voice Track. CTRL-T VTRAK.

In addition, it's under Automate menu (voice track).

So you can click the tool bar button, hit CTRL-T or go to the pull down menu to access the function.

Voice tracking is the act of positioning the highlight bar on an event in the playlist (aka automation deck) where you are either over-recording an existing track or inserting a track. Tracks are defined as audio file names that begin with the prefix VT_ or whatever prefix you have setup to use.

You can voice track the running playlist (if you are unlocked) or you can load any future playlist in an unused deck and voice track there assuming it's mapped to available sound channel/devices and you have that many channels available in your computer. Voice Tracking does require a minimum of 3 playout channels and 1 record channel to run the mix. If you do not have enough dedicated channels, the Echo Mia Midi (circa street price $149) is an affordable multi-track card that provides that many mixable channels and a record channel.

If you do not have enough sound channels in your system, or you have not mapped (setup pull down) available channels to the voice tracker, then it will display but may not let you play either song, or record. This is since the 1 2 and 3 buttons basically stand for discrete audio channels. Some stations don't need to listen to the songs - they just map the record (#2) to an available sound card channel and dry record by just hitting 2 and 4 to start and stop the recording.

If you use the live-assist screen, the VT button also lets you track the running playlist (version 8.010 and later) using the decks on the left in "edit" mode.    Previous versions do not allow you to use the VT button.

If you are in Live-Assist, you can toggle to the automation deck view by clicking on the LOG button. Voice Track there, and when you want to return to live-assist mode just click the Live-Assist button in the tool bar of the automation deck (or big live assist yellow button assuming you are in the running deck). Live-assist and the Automation deck are really the same playlist just different GUIs. Most folks prefer the automation deck for tracking since you can see many more events at the same time as you run down the day with less scrolling.
