What is the difference between printing from the Wire Browser and printing from the story viewer or Notepad?

Printing of wire stories uses two print engines.

The first is when printing from the browser itself. The second is printing from the text editor (aka when you select a story to view it and print it from there).

First verify that your printer driver and our software is communicating correctly by printing from the actual stories first.

You will notice there is a SETUP pull down menu in the wire stories that lets you select not just fonts and sizes but also the page/margin size. Unless the margin is wider than the printer page, text shouldn't go off the right hand margin.

If you can't print from the stories themselves, then there is a print driver issue or the page setting is off.

With this said, when you print from the list control (list of stories) in the Wire Browser, we print with a hard-coded font and use the tabs and carriage/returns preserved by the wire service itself (think of the old dot matrix days). It's been this way for years. Many stations wanted to keep their dot matrix printers around, some folks wanted the old style look; so we designed it so people could print directly from the Wire Browser for old-school print out or they could click into a story and then hit the F5 print key for standard Windows GUI (what you see is what you get) printer control.

When you open a story and hit print, whatever font and margin settings are represented on the screen should print on the printer.

The Notepad and Filelog stories also have their own separate remembered settings so when you configure font and margin settings using the SETUP pull down for example in the Notepad, you need to set up your preferred settings inside a wire story as well as inside a story opened from your Filelog to have everything configured. Many customers prefer to have different fonts and margin settings for these different areas of the program (why each section has it's own preferences).
