Technical Support - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can the DBCapture FTP connection settings be customized to connect with a different port?

Q: Can the DBCapture FTP connection settings be customized to connect with a different port?

A: Yes. The standard FTP port is 21. If your Web Hosting Service Provider uses port 21, nothing needs to be specifically configured. If, however, your Web Hosting Service Provider prefers to send your FTP connections to another port for security reasons, you can easily modify the path where you FTP files to include the port number.

The technical example for the port configuration looks like this:
service://server:port/dir/dir/object.ext

Editing the DBCapture configuration files to accommodate these specific port settings requires editing 1 or 2 files, depending on your particular file transferring or web publishing system. Here are the standard locations to find these files.

w:\wire\dbcapture\dbfolder.dat
w:\wire\dbcapture\dbcapture.ini

NOTE: Many of our web publishing systems use alternate drive letters. Some also use mulitple instances of dbcapture,so you'll need to make sure you find all the locations of possible configuration files.

Web Publishing Systems
For web publishing systems only, edit the DBFolder.dat file.

In the DBFolder.dat file, for every web publishing destination line, you have a command for OutputFilename=
Name/Alias;OutputFilename=http://yourdomain.com/public_html/wire/...

Add the port setting after the end of your domain name like the example below:
Name/Alias;OutputFilename=http://yourdomain.com:7777/public_html/wire/...

NOTE: You may also need to watch out for a second command on each line called LinkOutputFilename=. This command sends your media files (pictures, video, audio) to a subfolder for organization purposes on your server. Those commands will need edited in the same way as the example above for OutputFilename.

File Transferring Systems
For systems that also do simple IN/OUT file transferring to or from an FTP server, you'll need to look at your DBCapture.ini file.

For each numbered Move group, you'll need to edit the IN path or the OUT path, but usually you won't be editing both IN and OUT in the same Move group because both command lines won't point to the same FTP server. Here is an example:

In1=http://yourdomain.com:7777/public_html/wire/...
OR
Out1=http://yourdomain.com:7777/public_html/wire/...
