Technical Support - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Where do I begin when I want to upgrade versions

To upgrade, you should go to wireready.com, and click on the Tech Support link on the left.

The Tech Support splash page opens with a link to login. If you don't know the username and password to log into our tech support section, call 800-833-4459 or email support@wireready.com

On the Welcome to WireReady Technical Support section, you want to click the Windows Help Downloads/Upgrades Link.

After reading the terms, click the “CLICK TO ACCEPT THESE TERMS” link. This will take you to the page listing the versions of all of the WireReady NSI products.

We have several versions of WR32 listed to choose from. If you are skipping several verisions, you do not need to upgrade to each version between your current version and the latest one you are downloading.

There are version history docs listed with the versions, so you should get the ones for the versions between what you are currently running and the latest version.

You will download the new version as a zip file. Unzip the file and put it in w:\wire (or whatever drive letter you run the program from).

If you want one workstation to preview the version on, just change that shortcut on the workstation to run the exe directly.

If you are going to have all the workstations upgrade, then you will need to rename 2 files. Rename the existing wr32.exe to wr32-(version number).exe. Rename the new version (win_version number.exe) to wr32.exe. By renaming the existing version, you can revert back to it if there are any issues found.

The shortcuts on the workstations are probably pointing to wr_win.exe. This is a loader program that copies the WR32.exe file to the local drive and runs it from there. So nothing should have to change on the workstations.

When a user exits and restarts WireReady32, it should then copy the new version to their machine and they are upgraded. By using the loader program in the shortcut, you should not have to kick anyone out of the program to upgrade. And each workstation can upgrade when it is convenient, rather than being forced to do it at a certain time.

NOTE: If you are upgrading to a double-digit version (10 or higher) from a single digit version number, you will need to also download and install the Loader program (WR_WIN.exe) as well.
