In Window-Eyes version 8 Beta the alt and number keys to read items including time remaining, last played, etc. do not work anymore. What do you recommend for Window Eyes Version 8?

Q: In Window-Eyes version 8 Beta the alt and number keys to read items including time remaining, last played, etc. do not work anymore. What do you recommend for Window Eyes Version 8?

A: There is a lvnav script in WE8 that makes reading the automation deck and fileselect and medialog very easy. The lvnav script is designed to allow you to virtually navigate a listview. You can use the insert arrows to virtually move through the rows and columns in the listview. Insert-Home and Insert-End move to the beginning and end of a row while Control-Insert-Home and Control-Insert-End move to the top and bottom of a column. You can also use Alt-1 through Alt-0 to read columns 1 through 10. If you want to set focus to the virtual item you are on use Insert-Enter. If you want to set focus to the virtual item and add it to the current selection use Control-Insert-Enter. This script can be loaded globally to be available for all

The lv nav script included with WindowEyes8 works great with all our list control screens and is worth reading about and learning. But, in earlier versions you could use the alt-1-9 keys from that same script to read the columns.

You must make a change to the setup in Beta V8 and later to restore the ALT key hot keys in WireReady. In WE Beta V8 they installed by default a new script called the insert key layout script. This destroys the alt-1-9 access.

So, people need to go to the app menu in Window-Eyes and then choose app management.

Then add/remove apps.

Then remove the insert keyboard layout script.

After that script is removed, the world is made right again! The alt 1-9 keys will then work again in WR with WE.

There is only one issue that we can find in a quick review of using lv nav script and doing the above changes to the WE config. When you press the alt-0 combo to switch to the automate screens you hear there is no column 10. This will require a user to press insert-b to bypass and then alt-0 get's it done just fine.
